The next presidential election is still over two years away, so please stop speculating. Every time a news organization predicts a potential candidate something happens that ruins their chances. Chris Christie was predicted to run in 2016 but then he was marred in the George Washington Bridge scandal. Rick Perry, who is also predicted to run, is currently under criminal investigation. He is accused of coercion, bribery, and trying to force district attorney Rosemary Lehmberg into resigning. None of this is surprising, this is politics, but it’s bad for candidates and American faith in the system, though the transparency of our politic culture is necessary.
Even Chelsea Clinton’s pregnancy has been a major talking point. She’s been accused that she just got pregnant to help Hilary Clinton’s chances in 2016. Fox would do anything to ruin Hilary’s chances, and in politics everything is fair game. What I don’t understand is the hypocrisy. Hilary Clinton is 66 and Fox says that’s too old, but what about their idol Ronald Reagan? Reagan was 69 when he took office, but that’s okay for Fox because he was a white, male, Republican. And McCain? 71 when he ran against Obama. The vast majority of Americans cite TV as their main news source. So if the news media is uninformative, the people are also going to be uninformed. Where is the accountability? People are products of their environment and the media is a huge factor in the development of society. I guess it’s just easier to control an uninformed people.
In short, please stop talking about the election. There are so many news stories that need to be covered. Poverty, climate change, wars in the Middle East, gun control, these are the things people actually need to hear. A recent poll by three Ivy League professors revealed that only one in six Americans could point to where Ukraine is on a map. All I’m saying is this: the 2016 election is 100% conjecture and gossip. The slaughters in Nigeria, the war in Chicago, and destruction of our planet, all these things, they’re happening now and they need our attention.
