Populated with multinational firms, German Mittelstand companies, and oodles of Chinese manufacturers, the Intersolar Europe Expo opened June 10th. It is the largest exhibition in the world that prominently features innovation in the renewable energy sector.
The Internationales Congress Center München was packed with flashy booths, robot arms, and even a spinning brush mounted to a tractor. Firms touting less glamourous technologies such as storage and grid surge protection were also present.
While many of the exhibitors focused on mainstream applications of renewable energies, others are investigating new sections of the market. For example, the SunBrush GmbH, a firm based in Lachen, Germany, makes a rotating brush to clean grime from solar panels. This allows the panels to convert more of the sun’s energy to electricity. It’s also universally usable with “almost any tractor, excavator, or telescopic handler.”
