Editor’s Note: I am traveling right now for work, trapped at Charlotte Douglas International with a long layover, thanks to Mayor Pete. I’ve got a “big picture” piece on the fight for the House speakership coming out and what that moment means for the right. But I thought I’d share something I’ve been working on that is not political until that is ready. 

I think reading fiction is good for you. So, I tried writing some myself. I have no idea if this is good or if it will become a full-length thing. But here you go. I submit this fragment for you to like or mock.
